Survey Launched: Understanding Barriers to Growth for Young Freelancers and Self-Employed People

As part of the Erasmus+ project SHIFT: From Solo to Startup Success, partners are launching a Europe-wide survey to better understand the realities faced by young freelancers and self-employed individuals.

Freelancing can offer flexibility and independence — but for many young people, especially migrants, NEET individuals, and those from disadvantaged backgrounds, it can also mean instability, limited growth, and lack of access to structured business support. This survey is a key step toward changing that.

Participants are invited to share insights about:

  • Their current self-employment situation

  • Growth ambitions and future plans

  • Skills gaps and training needs

  • Obstacles to scaling their work

  • Support systems they currently use — or wish they had

The goal is not only to understand barriers, but also to uncover opportunities and untapped potential.
